BackCharles Darwin Primary were delighted to be recipients of the Inspiration Trust Primary Sports Cup ahead of the first event in the Primary sports tournament calendar this year. Out of the six primary schools’ that are part of the Inspiration Trust family, Charles Darwin Primary came out on top.
As part of the sporting curriculum pupils get the opportunity to play against other schools in the trust. Inspiration Trust prides itself on Physical Education and sports provision which includes a nationally recognised sports curriculum and includes Trust competitions in Dodgeball, Football and Athletics, working with local clubs and organisations to provide fantastic events, hosted in brilliant venues with great facilities.
Paul Wayman, Inspiration Trust Sports Coordinator said:
“It is clear to see that our Trust sporting events are a real highlight for our pupils. There is always a real buzz in the air, with pupils requesting more and more events. Being able to host these events in the some of the county’s best facilities adds to the grandeur of the occasion. Not only do the pupils come together to compete but they are great at making friends with pupils from other schools. This is often in large part to the sporting values that we like to focus on, such as, respect, tolerance and equality.
This year promises to step up to the next level with some pupils returning to participate in an event for a second or third time. Sports Leaders from Trust secondary schools are an integral part of facilitating the smooth running of these events. The sports team at the Trust are very excited to be starting another year of primary sports by hosting our annual dodgeball tournament at the Eileen Ash Sports Hall!”
Pupils have an opportunity to succeed outside of the classroom and many take advantage of after-school and lunchtime clubs to practise their sports skills, developing interpersonal skills such as teamwork, determination, sportsmanship and perseverance. The curriculum supporting Physical Education is inclusive and ensures pupils of all abilities can be involved, encouraging everyone to participate in sports which can lead to improved well-being, higher achievement, and opportunities to make new friends!
Jordan Sullivan, Principal at Charles Darwin said:
“The opportunity to bring pupils together from across Inspiration Trust has been fantastic to promote some friendly inter-school competition as well as offering opportunities for pupils to meet others from schools across Norfolk! All pupils that attended events across the last year performed fantastically with true sporting spirit, cheering on teammates (and competitors) as well as giving their all for their school team.”
James Tuthill, PE Lead at Charles Darwin said:
“The launch of the Inspiration Cup has become a highlight of our competition calendar. Our pupils are driven in PE lessons and Active Electives to prove themselves for the opportunity to demonstrate their Athlete Mentality.”
“Last academic year our pupils created memorable experiences at the three competitions which they shared with pupils back at school. A range of brilliant results across the three competitions of Dodgeball, Football and Athletics lead to an outstanding points tally.”
“We’re looking forward to competing again this year knowing the level of competition will be higher and we’ll need to perform even better to replicate our achievements last year.”
